February Flies By!

February has flown by... just like the rest of the time we've spent here in CO... so here's a quick recap of the month.

February started off with a big snow storm for the Ranch.  Hubble enjoyed the foot and half of snow we got and we spent the day going back to our childhood days frolicking in the snow in our "backyard".
Hubble had a new BFF for a few days.
Poor Hubs... Snowballs stuck everywhere!

We spent Valentine's Day with the Nuggets basketball players & Jason sent these pretty flowers to brighten up my desk at work... aww...
The Nuggets won the game (woot!) but were only 1 point away from the 110 point taco deal.  1 more point and we could have had 4 tacos for $1!  Don't ask me any of the players names... now that I'm thinking about it, I can't even remember what team they played. ha. oops!

That weekend we met up with Jody, Garrett, Ash, Scott, Kar, and Abe for wine tasting downtown at Wild Women Wine.  We decided to buy the Skinny Bitch Sauvignon Blanc. :)  I had some extra time between work & drinks so I did a little shopping along the 16th street mall before meeting up with everybody... should I go back for the Tiger shirt!?!

This month also included our first trips to Winter Park for the ski season! Jason is catching on fast... We did a couple of blue runs and he made it down without falling.  Our first trip up was a gorgeous day and we spent lunch lounging in the sun at Snoasis.

After a long day of skiing... we hit up the hot tub at our apt complex.  So nice!
Hubble was a little jealous of our outdoor activities so I took him to the dog park for some fun in the snow.  Found out that he does NOT like the CRV.  He won't get in!  I'm not sure what it is... but he won't jump into the car so I have to LIFT him in. UGH.  That's not going to last long- he better overcome his fear ASAP.
He did have a good time at the park once he got there though.

Last weekend we went up for another weekend of skiing... but this time got caught in the wind.  You wouldn't guess it by this picture- look how nice it is at the top of the mountain!
Little did we know that when we came down the slopes that they had shut down the lift that would take us back to the Winter Park side of the mountain.  We had to HIKE out!  I should have taken pictures because there were probably 100-200 people hiking up the mountain to the nearest lift.  They finally sent snow mobiles down to tow us up.  After that we did just a couple more runs and they closed down a few more lifts due to the wind.  We decided to call it a day and head down to Idaho Springs for some beer and a buffalo burger and wings. YUM.  That hit the spot and I took a 2 hour nap when we got home... worn out!

Looking forward to what March holds... which includes 3 weekends of fabulous visitors!  Can't wait to see the Brays, Hembergers, Flugums, and VGs!!!

Adult SNOW DAY!

Hooray for adult SNOW DAYS!
Today Highlands Ranch was forecasted to get 18-21 inches of snow... I just heard on the news that parts of HR got 26 inches!  It has been snowing all day, but at least one member of our household is loving it!

Hubble got to spend some extra time outside today just lounging and playing in the snow.  He didn't want to come in!  He laid around and watched the kids sledding on the golf course for a bit.
(I'm just loving the excuse to stay home from work!)
Here's a couple of shots from our backyard.
The ruler is close to 14 inches at this point of the day.
So, today I got to be lazy and catch up on my book for book club- currently reading The Paris Wife by Paula McLain, catch up on new (and old) TV, and work my way through a couple of the fitness magazines.  Where does the time go when you are doing nothing?!

The extra day also gave me some time to check out Denver Restaurant Week reservations!
I haven't been posting much about the restaurants we've visited lately... and that's mainly because we haven't been eating out.  That's about to change because I am SO looking forward to Denver Restaurant Week coming up February 25 - March 9.  Participating restaurants offer a special menu for two for $52.80.
Here's what on our reservation list (so check back for reviews!)
Yum! Let the countdown to restaurant week begin!

I also filled some time browsing blogs and pinterest for some new recipes.  It's my goal to get back into some kind of cooking routine... I've definitely been slacking lately and reverting back to some simple staples like salads, pasta, and enchiladas.  I think I found some winning recipes - so now I just need to plan ahead some time to make them!

A Triathlon? Really?

It's official! I'm a registered participant in the Iron Girl Boulder Sprint Triathlon
Let the training begin!
For those of you who know me... know I'm NOT athletic.  I mean, running a mile is a challenge for me. SO- this commitment is a big one for me.  Swimming 1/4 Mile, Biking 17.2 Miles, and Running a 5k.  I have a long way to go.  Since moving to CO, I've met a great woman who is already inspiring and encouraging me to get started.  She's provided me a list of the best races to do in 2012 and a stack of Fitness magazines to find my inspiration.  She's almost got me convinced to do a race on February 18th- running OUTSIDE in 2 weeks?! We're supposed to get 20 inches of snow tonight!!
The training will start SOON... until then, Jason & I are somewhat addicted to the show Weeds on Netflix.  Guilty pleasure I guess... but way better than getting sucked into another season of the Bachelor.  I'm hoping for a SNOW DAY tomorrow so I can stay up and finish Season 6 :)
In other news... here's a couple of snapshots of the events that filled January 2012.
New Years Eve
New Car!
Elise Visits
Katie Visits & First Ski Trip of the Season!
Winter Brew Fest with new friends Monica & Benjer (and Sam)

We'll see what February holds!  Phil told us we'll be getting 6 more weeks of winter... prevalent in the forecast for the next 2 days! 20 INCHES of SNOW?!
